“The Future”

“I know that the future is scary at times. But there’s just no escaping it.”
― Ernest Cline, Armada

I know that the future is unavoidable but that doesn’t mean that are future is predetermined. We write are own life’s story so don’t let someone else tell you how to live you life. Even though “the future is scary at times” but it is also the opportunity to start fresh. Do you agree with me or do you feel I am wrong?

Heal the world’s hurts

“Because it takes more courage to heal the world’s hurts than to inflict them.”
― Ann Aguirre, Horde

I believe this quote to be true because if healing the worlds hurts was easy everyone would be doing trying. Now because of this those who take the initiative to try to begin to to heal the worlds hurts.

Drop in a Bucket

“In a population of hundreds of millions, such a small number of people is a mere drop in the bucket… but enough drops can make any bucket overflow”
― Neal Shusterman, UnDivided

This quote puts into perspective that a revolution is started when there is a lot of people who feel the same way and one person steps up to lead this revolution. It takes a special type of person to lead that revolution. In today’s world it appears that we have more people than ever with these characteristics. With the power of the internet these people have voice is as loud as it have ever been. What do you think is this something you are familiar and how do you feel on this topic?

The Hacker Way

As part of building a strong company, we work hard at making Facebook the best place for great people to have a big impact on the world and learn from other great people. We have cultivated a unique culture and management approach that we call the Hacker Way.

The word “hacker” has an unfairly negative connotation from being portrayed in the media as people who break into computers. In reality, hacking just means building something quickly or testing the boundaries of what can be done. Like most things, it can be used for good or bad, but the vast majority of hackers I’ve met tend to be idealistic people who want to have a positive impact on the world.

The Hacker Way is an approach to building that involves continuous improvement and iteration. Hackers believe that something can always be better, and that nothing is ever complete. They just have to go fix it — often in the face of people who say it’s impossible or are content with the status quo.

Hackers try to build the best services over the long term by quickly releasing and learning from smaller iterations rather than trying to get everything right all at once. To support this, we have built a testing framework that at any given time can try out thousands of versions of Facebook. We have the words “Done is better than perfect” painted on our walls to remind ourselves to always keep shipping.

-Mark Zuckerberg (Founder and CEO of Facebook)

This was taken out of a letter to Facebook’s share holders. I believe that he included this because he wanted to get the word out there that “hackers” does not mean that you are doing things maliciously. Truly a hacker doesn’t have to be someone in front of a computer. Sadly this term has been tarnished by the Media all over and because of this people feel that is all people think about when they hear the term “hacker”. As Zuckerberg states above most of the hackers he has met are those that are idealistic and want to have a positive vision on the world.

The Party Seeks Power

Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.”
― George Orwell, 1984

This has a chilling similarity to today’s government. There are defiantly those who seek power “entirely for its own sake”. This quote seems to carry even more because of the upcoming presidential election. If you are looking for a book that makes you really think twice I defiantly recommenced reading 1984.

Here’s to the Misfits

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

-Steve Jobs (Apple Co. Founder)

This quote has always had a personal connection for me. It could be that it defines me as a geek. It could be that it gives light to those who feel like they don’t belong. It could be that I know that it is true those who challenge things, ask questions, and or they are seen as crazy possess a truly amazing ability, to change the world!
